you used to give me ALL your favorite little beach treasures, you gave me your favorite one every day when you came back from the water!! i still keep them aaaall in my room!! they're wrapped up in bubble wrap and safe so they're EXACTLY like the way they were when you gave them to me (°◡°♡)

[ There's a lot Kanan could say to this. Like: wow, Mari actually kept these? (That's, admittedly, kind of nice to hear.) Or: of course it's gonna be different now that they're grown up and dating, there's no way either of them could really be satisfied with Kanan giving her sand dollars and seashells. Mari's all high-class and sophisticated, and Kanan's old enough now to understand what that entails.

But in her mind's eye she can see this argument going on and on, so instead... she plays dirty. ]

That gets an overwhelmingly quick response; they pour in at lightspeed, as if her weak spot's just been hit and she's desperate to backtrack.

[ She's jealous of how she can be like that. Of how Mari can touch and cling so effortlessly, like two years haven't passed and nothing's changed at all.

It makes Kanan self-conscious. And conscious of Mari, too. She's conscious of Mari all the time. After two years apart, having her back -- and so close, overwhelming all her senses the way only Mari knows how -- can almost be too much. She always gets caught up in the scent of her hair, or how soft she feels. She always gets caught up in how this is more than she deserves.

Of course, she'd die before she tells Mari any of this, so instead Kanan resorts to flomping down on the bed with her face in the pillow and groaning, I suuuuck. ]

It's not an empty threat, either; she's more than willing to make the trip down on a moment's notice, and she won't even change her sweater first.

Her face isn't in the photo she sends, most likely because her cheeks are as red as the irritated skin on her chest from her cry earlier, but at the very least, she clearly isn't wearing the sweater anymore; she's making a point to show off her lingerie top, and judging how pristinely white it is (that is, not drenched in coffee), it's safe to say that she at least changed into it after her morning tragedy struck.

Not that it makes the photo any less risque.
